Senate Ethics Committee Begins Expulsion Review for Senator Menendez

The NJ senator has refused to refuse all calls to step down after his bribery conviction.

The Senate Ethics Committee informed Senator Bob Menendez on Monday that it has taken the first step of a review that could lead to his expulsion from the legislative body.

“The Committee anticipates completing the adjudicatory review promptly,” Chairman Chris Coons and Vice Chairman James Lankford stated.

Last week, Senator Menendez was convicted on 16 criminal counts for receiving bribes to act as a foreign agent, accepting gold bars, luxury cars, and hundreds of thousands of dollars to funnel billions of dollars in U.S. aid to Egypt. Most of his colleagues have urged Senator Menendez to step down from his position in the Senate both before and after his conviction, but Menendez has refused.

Senator Menendez said, “Seems to me that there is an effort to try to force me into a statement. Anyone who knows me knows that’s the worst way to achieve a goal with me.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Menendez as he seeks to remain in his office.
  • For members of the Senate Ethics Committee as they begin the review of Senator Menendez’ conduct.
